The invisible profession

Most people don’t notice great stewarding. That’s the point.

Because great stewarding happens below the radar. Hundreds of professionals quietly doing their job. Welcoming visitors. Answering questions. Managing crowds. Spotting risks. Listening to needs. Protecting and serving, so that thousands of people can put their focus where it should be – on enjoying a football match, concert, or major public event in perfect safety.

At times misunderstood as ‘gig-work’, stewarding is, in reality, part of the critical customer service and safety infrastructure that allows major public events to happen safely.

It’s not only a career with real potential, but one with great rewards.

Stewarding places people at the heart of unforgettable moments. The match everyone talks about. The concert remembered for years. While thousands of people are making memories, stewards are quietly helping make those moments possible.

Now the Premier League and Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, have announced a ground-breaking £1.2 million partnership which will establish a first-of-its-kind Stewarding Academy training thousands of football stewards in the capital – raising standards, improving safety, and creating vital jobs for Londoners in this vital public-facing profession. It’s a strong statement of commitment, and it’s only the beginning of this exciting journey.

For us, the communication challenge was clear

It wasn’t about explaining the Stewarding Academy. It was about making stewarding feel like a career worth choosing. And creatively, the answer presented itself.

Every steward wears the same piece of equipment. The high-visibility vest. Its purpose is practical. It makes people visible. Recognisable. Reassuringly approachable. But it also carries something more powerful. It makes ordinary people stand for more.

That observation became the foundation of the ‘Standout’ campaign.

Standout evolved into a campaign platform that could carry every part of the conversation. It celebrates those who stand out through professionalism, through service. It positions stewarding as a career that stands out. It gives the partnership a distinctive identity while providing a consistent platform for recruitment, engagement and the promotion of the Stewarding Academy.

One idea that everyone instinctively understands, allowing every piece of communication to reinforce the same thought. Giving people a reason to re-evaluate what they think they know, and an opportunity to see it differently.

Making the invisible, very visible indeed. If you’re communicating a complex subject where building trust and confidence is essential to success, you’ll recognise the challenge.

Let’s talk about how creativity can help important ideas get the attention they deserve.
