The Pneumococcal African Genome project (PAGe) is a consortium funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, focused on genomic analysis of the pneumococcus across Africa. The Consortium required a logo that not only strongly conveyed the fact that the project was being undertaken in Africa but was being led by teams based there – historically it had been western based teams who had taken the lead. In addition, there was a requirement to communicate that genomics held the key to understanding pathogenesis
Our solution was a unique, abstract graphic representation of Africa using a stylised genetic sequencing pattern. Clean typography and colours reflected the professional nature of the organisation. Several study relevant logos were created using a simple ‘superscript’ number to identify each serotype group, there are over 91 recognised pneumococcal serotypes.
